Instant Oatmeal, sans the guilt

I remember a time, not too long ago that I would get up in the morning and make a pot of fresh, home-made, large whole flake oat oatmeal. Now, I’m barely able to get fully dressed, make-up – forget about it, and just rushing to feed Simone and get her to school.

So I’ve cut a few corners in the oatmeal department for the sake of time, but I’ve only compromised health a wee tiny bit.

Instant Oatmeal, sans the guilt

1 pack of instant oatmeal (we buy either a box of Organics from Safeway, or Quaker low salt/sugar from Save-On. Flavour is up to you, I get the maple one.)

Quick cooking oats (I buy a bag of plain, organic quick cooking oats from Safeway)

Apple sauce

Whole milk

Boil water in a kettle and empty packet of instant oatmeal into a bowl: depending on how big your picky kid’s appetite is in the morning, use the whole packet or half. Then add the quick cooking oats on top to dilute the instant oats. Pour water, and stir until well-blended. Add a heaping tablespoon of apple sauce and top with milk to make creamy.

Simone will typically eat almost the entire bowl and a yogurt cup afterwards. Guilt? Nope, not here!
