A funny story

April 25, 2011

Not so long ago, husband went out for a big ol’ bender and found himself massively hungover the next day. I barely remember what being hungover feels like, but what I do recall is the dehydration and the intense cravings for anything juicy (with brief interruptions of salt of course).

When I came downstairs I found husband in the kitchen with my bag of frozen (fresh) blueberries – he was popping them into his mouth at a rapid pace. I nearly lost my sh*t on him! “What the hell are you doing? Those are my fresh blueberries from the summer that I freeze and use throughout the winter to make muffins, cakes, etc. These are NOT your hangover remedy!”

Can you say, unsympathetic for the hungover? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now to be perfectly honest, I kind of forgot I had frozen this huge bag of fresh blueberries…so perhaps my shrieking came more from a place of shock – as in, “holy sh*t look at all those blueberries I have, yippee!” but no way I was going to blow my angry wife cover. He still deserved to be hollered at…I mean come on, dads don’t get hungover anymore…do they? ย ๐Ÿ˜‰

This morning I made my friend Carolyn’s most awesome banana-blueberry muffins with, yup, you guessed it, my frozen fresh blueberries. They were divine! I also made a topping for them as I love those crunchy sweet toppings you get on muffins from really good bakeries. Be sure to revisit the muffin recipe and try adding the topping for an extra kick.

Awesome banana-blueberry muffins

Muffin topping

1 cup quick oats

1 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup whole wheat flour

1/4 cup cold butter – cut it into small pieces and mix with the dry ingredients.

Mix together and sprinkle on muffins. You can also do this to your favourite banana bread recipe or zucchini bread.

Hah, no kidding! But honestly…a hungover parent on the weekend when you have a kid and home to look after. Grounds for divorce I tell you! Just kidding…but I’m totally justified in being a wee-bit of a hag. ๐Ÿ˜‰
